“With competition in the workplace work experience abroad sets candidates apart; the sign of an adventurous, enthusiastic, adaptable, experienced employee”
Gap Year Canada provides consistent, high quality, energetic, adventurous students to various employers both on the mountain, and in the town of Banff.
Employers know our group have pre-established accommodations organized for the season, thus are prioritized for job placement as accommodation in Banff continues to be scarce.
Mountain jobs include: Guest services, Bus Chaperones, Parking attendants, Retail shops, Restaurants (cooks, servers, food and beverage), Hotel, Gondola attendants, Lift Operations, Trail Crew, Day Care, Instructors (ski/snowboard), Rental/Tuning shop.
Service industry type jobs throughout the town include; hotels, restaurants, coffee shops, ice cream parlours, candy shops, retails stores (sports, clothing, jewellery, etc) as well as other opportunities for landscaping, outdoor camps, and horseback riding guiding and tours.
Unlike other mountain towns, Banff’s busiest season is in the summer as Banff hosts well over 2 million tourists that are attracted here to explore Canada’s largest National Park and the spectacular Canadian Rocky Mountains.
Wages and Benefits
Wages on the mountain start at $8/hour.
Staff that stay until the end of the season get an end of season bonus (anywhere from $500-1000 depending on the number of hours worked). Almost all jobs pay the same wages, however some of the group have been promoted to supervisor roles, which see their wages increase incrementally.
Mountain Jobs
Wages are usually a bit higher than on the mountain typically about $10/hour. (plus tips if you work in a restaurant or bar setting)
Benefits: Most jobs are located right in the town of Banff, blocks from your chalet. The town is busy, and it is light out in the evening well past 11pm allowing you to find lots of time to enjoy the summer weather.
