GAP YEAR CANADA

Dates

For those working a season in Banff (including Gap Year Applicants):

Winter chalets are set up and organized from October 1st- May 31st.

Arrive in October; give yourself time to settle in, adjust to the time change, get to know your housemates, and discover Banff before getting started with work.

October gives you a chance to enjoy fall in the mountains. Explore Banff and the National Park, do some hiking, climbing, and mountain biking before the snow flies and the incredible blue waters freeze over as winter arrives. It is also a chance to partake in some true Canadian traditions, go to an ice hockey game, carve pumpkins and experience Halloween. Other events in October include the Banff Mountain Film Festival which draws mountain enthusiasts from all over the world.

For those that are coming to work for the season, we encourage you to arrive by the middle of October for the Mountain Hiring Fair.

With Gap Year Canada’s pre-arranged job placements on the mountain most of our group do not need to go through the initial hiring stages, however some managers and departments prefer to meet staff before finalizing positions.

Just requiring seasonal accommodation?

Full Winter Season: Arrive at the beginning of November, when the mountain resorts open. Many of the opening days are known for the powder hounds that line up for first tracks. Stay until the end of May when the mountains close for the season, usually not for lack of snow, but lack of skier and boarders! Improve your boarding or skiing more than you ever thought was possible, take your Qualifications while you are out to become an instructor!

Six month Season: For those that aren’t able to commit to a full Canadian season, this option is still twice as long as most seasons in Europe! Bring your skiing and boarding to that next level.

Summer Add-On

For those interested in staying on for the summer (which surprising to most, is high season here in Banff), based upon availability, we would be pleased to extend your accommodation for the summer period. Please inquire for summer rates.
